FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Dean Borghi Fine Art Presents: In a Bar Under the Sea – April 10th
New York, NY – Dean Borghi Fine Art is pleased to present In a Bar Under the Sea, a solo exhibition by Swiss artist Amélie Ducommun. Opening on April 10th, this evocative body of work invites viewers into an immersive space where the fluidity of time, the malleability of memory, and the natural world converge. In a Bar Under the Sea is a profound meditation on water as both a literal and metaphorical carrier of history and emotion—an exploration that resonates deeply in our contemporary moment.
For over 15 years, Ducommun has investigated the memory of water, using painting and installation to articulate the delicate balance between our inner selves and the external landscapes we inhabit. In her newest work, the artist creates a series of luminous works that serve as memory maps—visual traces of places, sensations, and fleeting moments carried by water, where past and present dissolve into one another.
Ducommun’s paintings, with their harmonious blending of color and rhythmic, fluid forms, evoke the idea of memory as both ephemeral and enduring, much like water itself. The exhibition offers a quiet counterpoint to the frenetic pace of modern life, urging viewers to pause, reflect, and rediscover a sense of wonder. Through her use of organic elements, Ducommun captures a world where poetry, elegance, and balance are not lost in the rush of time.
The exhibition explores the tension between movement and stillness, memory and perception—motifs that define much of Ducommun’s practice. At its core, In a Bar Under the Sea speaks to the urgency of reconnecting with nature, not just physically, but intellectually and spiritually. It serves as a meditation on the collective erosion of memory and the fleeting nature of the objects that hold it.
Alongside her expansive canvases, the exhibition will feature a series of smaller-scale works and prints, each offering a more intimate exploration of these themes. These pieces invite viewers to reflect on the impermanence of both the natural world and personal histories, emphasizing the quiet, liminal spaces between presence and absence, certainty and ambiguity.
In a Bar Under the Sea will be on view at Dean Borghi Fine Art, 529 W 20th Street, from April 10th to May 10th, 2025. The opening reception will be held on Thursday, April 10th, at 6:00 PM.
